Editor’s Letter

Ricky Martin, Chayanne, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, Enrique Iglesias, J-Lo, Mark Anthony, and both Alejandro and Vicente Fernández all released albums in 2007 after a few years of absence from the sales charts. It’s been, by all measures, a year of blue-chip artists, and to close it with a bang, Juanes is now releasing his fourth album. At press time only the single had been released, but it was already taking over the airwaves, forecasting another successful album. We got a preview of it, and an up-close and personal session with the artist behind it, as we tried to figure out what makes this shy, soft-spoken Colombian a star the world-over (See “The Thing About Juanes,” on p. 62).

And we kick off our first ever Good Life Issue with a luxury travel section featuring one of the most exclusive resorts in the world (“No Ordinary Cay,” p. 16) as well as a view of Vegas from the top (“Beyond the Green Felt,” p. 18). Food columnist Idy Fernandez talks to some of the most relevant food and drinks specialists, taking you on a tour of the flavors, ingredients, trends and recipes from south of the border that are taking the U.S. by storm (“Feast for the Senses,” p. 19). Auto columnist Russ Heaps brings us the best in luxury coupes, (“Top of the Line,” p. 26) and contributor Marcela Rojas goes in search of those upscale stylemakers raising the bar in fashion, design, car-making and boating (“The Trendsetters,” p. 48).
Finally, music columnist Victor Cruz-Lugo tracked down some of the most relevant figures giving urban Latin music a breath of fresh air beyond reggaeton. Dominican newcomer Kat de Luna whose debut album has made her an instant star, hip-hop artist Baby Bash, whose album Cyclone is topping U.S. charts, and Cuban trio Orishas, who this summer gave us an album that ties together 10 years of musical excellence (“Summer may be over,” p. 72).
