DEar readers:

As we were making preparations for our Hispana Leadership Summit and were finalizing this issue, we learned the sad news that Teresa Zubizarreta had passed away at the age of 69. Just a few months ago we profiled her son, Joe, who has been in charge of the highly successful ad agency she built. Tere will be remembered as one of the first Hispanics to succeed as an entrepreneur in a time when we were hardly the growing force we are now. She was a trailblazer, a leader and a businesswoman.
In this special issue focused on Hispanic businesswomen, we wanted to recognize Teresa Zubizarreta’s legacy. Her work helped to bring to the attention of Corporate America the existence of a thriving Hispanic community and the business opportunities that came with it; after that, she became the marketing and advertising connection for corporations that wanted to reach this emerging market.
Our annual list of outstanding businesswomen (p. 30) is also in this issue, along with profile of a woman who is never afraid to stand up for what she believes, television personality Judge Maria Lopez (p. 16). For busy executives, we take a look at the growing phenomenon of executive health programs that pack a year’s worth of medical exams into one day. Finally, we dissect the pros and cons of some of the most popular fractional jet ownership programs (p. 20).
In preparation for the USHCC’s annual conference in Puerto Rico at the end of September, we have profiled two of San Juan’s chambers of commerce (p. 62) and preview some of the events scheduled to take place during the convention.
Earlier this month we successfully concluded our second Hispana Leadership Summit, where I was very pleased to interact with some of the most successful Hispanic businesswomen in the country. We will cover the event in detail on our next issue.

Best,
